A huge part of my mission as an artist is to celebrate the power of my blackness. All the things about us we were taught to suppress in order to be digestible for others, are the very things I aim to highlight. WE ARE art.
Questions & Answers
How would you describe your style of art?
I call it the orange dream'sicle. I like to think of my artwork as the evanescence of vivid dreams, slipping into vibrant orange clouds. Merging pop culture of the past into modern hyper-realistic oil portraits with bits and pieces missing. Just like a dream.
What do you want the world to know about you as an artist?
I would like the the world to know that my art is a celebration of black culture. My mission is shed light onto all the things we were told was too much. You are beautiful.
Do you draw inspiration from other elements of culture (ie: music, dance, etc)
I spent a lot of time in barber shops and beauty salons growing up as a kid. Watching how black men and women would walk in one way but leave transformed and smiling always left me mesmerized. Those smiles, product smells, and memories of shop gossip have brought me much inspiration through my career.
