David's interest in photography began with and grew alongside his interest in travel. He has spent most of his adult life on the road, traveling through 67 countries. During this time, his camera has served as a means of exploration as well as its justification. Without designs, he has documented his journeys and allowed his craft to grow organically through experimentation. He has never formally studied photography. I'm based in New Orleans' 8th ward.

Describe yourself in one word. Transcendant.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I love the people and culture of New Orleans. They breathe life into me and my work.

Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? What I will get on any given day of shooting is a mystery. Perhaps that's why I'm so drawn to photography - the unpredictability, the mystery. I throw myself into a situation and simply be inside it, reacting and creating compositions very quickly as things occur around me.

Where do you draw inspiration? From people and culture, and novel experiences.

Who are your artistic influences or gurus? Josef Koudelka and Woodie Guthrie.

Where can we find you when you are not creating art? I'm usually always creating art.
