My life as a photographer is still relatively new as I toyed with becoming a lawyer or working in politics for most of my life. I was attending graduate school in Boston when I first discovered my passion for photography. At first, it served as a way to leave my apartment and explore an unfamiliar place. It quickly took on a life of its own. I finished graduate school and moved to New Orleans in 2015.

The south, unlike photography, was not new to me. I spent the first twenty-two years of my life in Lafayette, Louisiana. Something about the culture of this state brought me right back after only spending two years away. Not having to shovel snow played a small part as well. I quickly realized that photography provided me with something much more fulfilling than working in law or politics. Taking photographs allows me to make sense of and find structure in an unorganized and chaotic world.

Describe yourself in one word. Inquisitive

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I try, whenever possible, to find the beauty in everything. I use photography as a tool for turning the mundane into something worth remembering. New Orleans, in particular, has an abundance of these scenes.

Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? I usually do my best work when I am overwhelmed or stressed out in my personal life. Leaving my phone behind to explore the city with just my camera is the greatest form of release for me.

Where do you draw inspiration? I draw inspiration from the beauty that surrounds each and every one of us. Our world is so preoccupied with technology, appearances, and status that we tend to ignore or disregard the beauty that is right in front of us.

Who are your artistic influences or gurus? Sally Mann and Vivian Maier.

Where can we find you when you are not creating art? Watering my ever increasing plant collection or volunteering at the LASPCA.

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? One to two hours before sunset or the first couple of hours after sunrise. Usually Fridays through Sundays and any month during the summer. There's nothing like southern heat to make you feel alive.

What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact. I have a daily subscription to a real, print newspaper.
