Hello! I am Bruna Pétalla
I'm a muralist and artist, I like to paint colorful abstract scenes of bold shapes and forms, hoping to dazzle you as you walk by, and help you remember how incredible this world we live in is.
As a Latina artist, I am inspired by my Brazilian roots and the place my art career has blossomed, New Orleans. Growing up both of my parents were artists; but it was not a path I first chose to follow. In Brazil I worked as a marketing strategist for an award-winning advertising agency. I knew I wanted to do more with my creativity and after backpacking across the globe for three years I settled in New Orleans, a place bursting at the seams with creative soul. During lockdown I discovered my power as an artist when I contributed to the “Plywood Project” and spread positive messages through bright, temporary murals on closed down businesses.
Since then I have expanded my practice across cities on permanent large-scale murals, and creating smaller works for local and international brands such as “Winn-Dixie” and “Psycho Bunny”. Though my medium changes, my message stays the same. To inspire joy and celebrate life through creativity.

Questions & Answers
Describe your art in three words.
Happy, Fun and Bright
Describe yourself in one word.
Vibrant
What do you love the most about creating art in your community? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?
Since I first arrived in New Orleans I was inspired by all the colors I saw, all the music I've listened on the streets, all the amazing food I had and the incredible people I met. I found a city that welcomes everyone and every culture, and this is rare to find. I love how New Orleans allows us to be whoever we wanna be and we are constantly reminded by it in every celebration we see in this city. All of this made me an artist and continue to be inspired by it every day.
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?
I create best when I'm in a happy mood and a cozy place. So I usually play my favorite songs and get body moving along with the beats. Whenever an idea or inspiration comes to mind, I tend to develop it first in my thoughts for a while, until I'm ready to bring it out to the world. I like to draw it using Procreate app on my iPad, then playing with color palettes that brightens up my mood.
Where do you draw inspiration?
I draw inspiration from mostly from Nature, but also from my walks around the city observing the beautiful house colors and front porch plants.
Who are your artistic influences or gurus?
Henri Matisse, Yayoi Kusama, Athos Bulcão, Alexa Proba, Eduardo Kobra and many more....
In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work?
I'd say any happy beats that makes your body moves, but mostly MPB (Brazilian Music), Bossa nova and Brazilian Jazz and Samba.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art?
Getting myself into some fun adventure, long walks or booking flights for my next trip.
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
I love springs, Mondays and October.
What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact.
I love karaoke, I'm a terrible singer and I never learn any lyrics.
