Inspired by the life giving force of nature and the gestating creative process most people experience in one way or another, the organic shape speaks to this incubation of thought. The raw materials create an immediate intimacy.
I carefully hammered each tree ring out one by one, injecting the pine wood with oil and water to assist with the process. The slow incubation of the piece pays homage to the underlying theme, as well as respecting the natural shape and material of the wood.
"Deep" is a part of the Soundgarden collection at Ochsner Baptist Auditorium.
