Archival Print of Courage
Ink Illustration
The Strength Collection: #4
We often associate courage with heroics or extraordinary events. What about a different type of courage, an everyday courage that millions share?
This leaping figure is an acknowledgement of the courage it takes people to simply exist within their own bodies. It is an appreciation of the courage it takes for a trans person to inhabit a foreign body, or to transition to the one that feels like home. It is a recognition of the courage it takes to weather society’s policing and expectations of those bodies. It is an understanding of the courage it takes to live inside a small or large body, old or young body, disabled or abled body, or the countless ways that bodies exist.
In an ideal world, it wouldn’t take courage to inhabit a body, but we aren’t quite there yet. For now, let us stand courageous together!
