It was mid-June or so, just before the Summer Solstice, when a kaleidoscope of color beamed out the corner of my eye as I was leaving my house. A few hours later I returned, the bright light still shining, so I decided to check it out. To my surprise, that beautiful array of color was coming from a tiny termite! The swarming season was just ending yet a closer look revealed a portal into the swarming world of the coptotermes formosanus aka The Intergalactic World of the Termite. Was it coincidence or did the light guide them here, as it has for so many? These formosan light seekers arrived in mid twentieth century New Orleans after finding a favorable space for their talents and, by working together, to build strong communities. While it may seem difficult to accept similarities between ourselves and these notorious human home destroyers, it's not a stretch of the imagination to say — we are all just looking for the light.
