Brandy creates art in the hopes that it will speak to people of all backgrounds and connect with those in the shadows. She believes art can heal, it can inspire, and it can provide advocacy for those who deserve a voice; the real life superheroes whose song is unsung. She believes that art can make a difference! Inspired by nature and humanity, She explores strength, emotion, and beauty through her work.
Born in Louisiana’s sleepy bayou country, Brandy Dufrene developed a deep love and respect for the natural environment and an appreciation for simple yet magical moments it creates. She realized that the relationship between human beings and the world that provides for them is sometimes delicate, chaotic, and beautiful. Growing up “on the bayou” taught her how permeable the lines between those things could be. She believes New Orleans has its own complicated relationship with nature, and since relocating there, she’s enjoyed exploring that intriguing dance along its streets.
Brandy’s interest in the grace and beauty of age also began early. As a young girl, she fell head over heels for New Orleans, its charm, its imperfections, and its grit that make every day interesting and inspiring. She sees that there is a haunting beauty in the gnarls of the live oak, in the resurrection fern peeping out of brickwork, and in the abandoned graffiti-laden building basking in the twilight. The influences of growing up in South Louisiana, along with admiration for the resilience of the human spirit is undeniably woven throughout her work.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?
There is a never ending supply of inspiration here.. the dancer like oaks that stretch out over the streets, the lovely marriage between human made objects and nature, the beautiful aging of the city and its structures, and the ever present flavor of the people who live and visit here.
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?
Excitement, patience, impatience, patience again, impatience again, and then exhalation.
Where do you draw inspiration?
Humanity, nature, and life's adventures.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art?
Most likely the Art Garden on Frenchmen Street. I'm sort of a workaholic!
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
Sunrise! I love the idea of the world waking up, and there is a certain feel that sunset just cannot replicate. Many of my photos are from this time of day. My favorite time of the year is Fall...when New Orleans is graced with it.
What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact.
I'm a podcast and information junkie. Seriously, I need an intervention.
