I painted this from a photo I took in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The park is one of my favorite places in the New Orleans area and I go back again and again. The light on this day, walking through the boardwalk section of the hiking trail, was magical and otherworldly and I knew I had to paint it. Something about being enclosed in the palmettos gives me a feeling of resplendent joy, tinged with an existential longing. I wanted to share that feeling with my viewer.

Follow this artistI grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana and am now based out of Shreveport. I'm a lifelong painter. Some of my earliest memories involve being covered head to toe in paint. Every margin of every notebook was filled with doodles in school. I settled on a career as a massage therapist, but the Covid shutdown allowed me to pursue art full time and I haven't looked back. My brain is always 4 or 5 paintings ahead of me. I have had so many exciting opportunities as an artist in Louisiana, and I can't wait to see what's around the next bend in the art road!
