This Rose Window piece is a step into new territory for me. I wanted to see what could be done in the combination between resin and laser-cut steel. I chose the Notre Dame North Rose Window to be the basis of the design. I simplified the geometry and created the cut-out design in Revit, an architectural modeling software. Then, I had the design cut into steel at Workhaus in New Orleans. I cut a plexiglass backing for it, and poured ink-dyed resin into the empty 'panes' and added a shallow backing frame of plexiglass and wood in which to mount led strip lights so it can be backlit by natural light by day and become a light fixture by night.
I am a New Orleans and Minneapolis-based artist from Lafayette, LA. I studied art at Brown and RISD, graduating from Brown in 2013. I moved to New Orleans after graduation, where I practiced art alongside a career in graphic design, community engagement, and architectural design. I've shown my in galleries in south Louisiana and Mississippi. Currently, I am pursuing an M.Arch and an MLA degree at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. My art work is inspired by the patterns in nature and the manner in which our minds filter, remember, transform, and represent our experiences.
