Nevermind hair of the dog. I need the head, the tail, the whole damn dog!
I had this idea years ago and kept putting it off. I originally made a Bloody Mary painting on a wooden paddle and, when looking for inspiration online, found that there are some places that make giant extreme Bloody Marys with all kinds of foods as garnish. I sketched a lot but never really committed to the idea and moved onto other things. The idea kept popping up. I decided to purge the idea and just make the damn thing. I had been doing more thoughtful work so to just make a thing because I wanted to was a nice reminder of why I paint...to just have fun.
This was a challenge though, because I found food to be very difficult to paint. You either go hyper realistic or cartoonish. I feel I did neither but I'm happy with everything regardless. The only thing missing for me is Mexican food which is a hangover necessity for me but I'll just do another down the road that has it included. Maybe it will be a series. Not sure about that. What food would you like to see added?
I did try to treat this piece composition like a game of improv. I went with whatever idea that came to mind (yes, and...) and didn't self edit like I would normally do. For example...my day job is a graphic designer. I own my own business where I focus on logos and brands for small businesses (page coming soon). I created a logo for this particular painting and included it on the glass.
