I was born in New Orleans, but relocated after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and have lived in various cities and states.
I have always enjoyed painting and drawing since I've learned how to write. I paint things based on my surroundings, conversations I've overheard, or just things that stood out during my day. I'm very minimal when it comes to tools. I only use a brush and a palette knife to create most of my work. Abstract art is so interesting to me because it creates conversations and it allows you to use your imagination! My art work has been exhibited in a few group shows in New Orleans as well as Los Angeles, as well as on the drama series "Queen Sugar" on Oprah Winfrey Network.
Rannie currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
Questions & Answers

Something you need!
Describe yourself in one word.
Unforgettable.
What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?
I love that art in New Orleans is becoming more diverse. My work is influenced by my faith, the things I've seen or heard throughout my day. So I will say not one thing in particular makes up my artwork...
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?
My creative process typically begins very late at night and it is heavy influenced by my experiences.
Where do you draw inspiration?
I typically draw inspiration from my surroundings.
Who are your artistic influences or gurus?
There's so many! But the ones who initially comes to my mind will have to be Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yves Klein, and Mark Rothko.
In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work?
I love Reggae, Afro-beats, Soul, and anything by Sade. I like to listen to music that moves me either physically or emotional. I love to paint very vibrant and bold- messy paintings. I like artists whose music is like poetry.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art?
You won't lol. Most of the time I'm inside. I'm the poster child for the saying "home body". But on occasions you may find me either at a nice restaurant, laying in the sun by a pool, on the beach, at a Museum, or an Exhibit. Ohhh I also love to hike!
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
My favorite time of day is night ... I'm a night owl. My favorite day of the week is Sunday. My favorite month will have to be March.
What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact.
I'm probably the worst parallel parker on this planet. But I'm getting better. I'm also a great dancer and I love Japanese food!
