From a young age, I have been drawn to creative pursuits. I worked as a graphic designer for years before I turned to painting. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to develop my passion through several years of private instruction and self-exploration. Although I enjoy impressionistic style painting in oil, I have chosen to focus on abstract work created in acrylic and other types of media. I often find inspiration from color palettes, shapes, and textures although it's hard to not be influenced by Louisiana living.
Questions & Answers
Describe your art in three words. Contemporary. Inspired. Peaceful.
Describe yourself in one word. Enthusiastic
What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? New Orleans is a place like none other. You can't help but be inspired by all of the talented artists in our area! For being a small town, Covington has embraced the art world with fervor. Life on the Northshore is centered around water - Lake Ponchartrain, multiple rivers, creeks, etc. I feel this is evident in my work.
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? I definitely have to be in the creative zone although sometimes it comes by just getting started. If I'm not feeling it I leave it and come back to it later.
Where do you draw inspiration? When I see particular color combinations in nature, art, and life I feel the need to create something to reflect those colors.
In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work? I'm a fan of most music but I guess I'd have to say a jazz ballad would be most representative.
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? Spring and fall - so much energy in the air!
What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact. I LOVE coffee. I mean really LOVE it. If I could set up a studio inside a coffee shop I'd be in heaven!
