I worked at the Contemporary Arts Center from 2003 to 2011. It was amazing to finally get the education about what happens behind the scenes in the arts. In 2011 I Ieft the job to pursue my full time studio practice once again. A friend gave me a stack of canvases and I went to work. The background was created in those first few years. I was like the tin man and needed to spend some time oiling my hinges after moving away from my own practice in support of the pursuits of others. When I'd finally found my voice as a painter again and moved back into flow, I completed the piece with the top layer that holds the under layer as though in a dream.

Follow this artistAs a painter and multi-media artist, I have dedicated my life to the healing journey of the creative process – for both myself and as many others as possible.
My background combines generations of doctors with a lineage of artists and free spirits, and I knew from a young age that my life would represent the confluence of the two disciplines. I was drawn to art, while honoring the healing journey that my background also represents.
I am interested in the integral nature of creative expression to humans through time – even when survival depended on building fires and shelter and hunting food, the earliest humans still made time to reflect their inner and outer reality through art.
In making the choice to pursue art, I honor the privilege of having the time and space to immerse myself in nature, in travel, in exploring the wonders of the world, whether it be the flight of birds catching air currents over the Mississippi, or the incongruous beauty of rampant flowering vines overtaking a derelict shotgun house.
I then hold it as a sacred duty to impart what I see and learn to the world via my paintings – they are not just beautiful, colorful images; they represent my own inner and outer journey, and seek to draw the viewer in to participate in that journey.
To me, my art exists to inspire people to make a change within themselves. In the same way that the Tantric yantras take you from the place you’re in to a new place - your mind is transformed – when you look at my paintings, my intention is that you’re visually transported to a different state of mind or consciousness – a calmer, more optimistic place. A sense of possibility. It’s entirely about transformation.
Alongside my art, I am a spiritual seeker who explores yoga, meditation, mantra and various other modalities in my pursuit of wholeness and restoration, for myself and the world.
I believe we can all contribute to the betterment of the world through creating art. And it’s my hope that all of us will find our own form of creative expression in the world.
