Hidden behind castle like walls, the tiny apartment in which she lived was tucked away under three stories of the oldest spiral staircase the city had known. The courtyard became the great escape, an oasis of beauty to step into and forget the two hundred square foot room the Artist called home. Here the painting came to life. The soft strokes, layered and loose, built the Artist's backyard into a vision of beauty, hope. The girl in the window appeared, a reflection of the future self- a reminder that anything was possible in a painting.
Part of a collection of 3 courtyard paintings. In the Fall of 2022, the artist lived in the French Quarter in a tiny apartment of which the courtyard offered a source of inspiration. This is the final painting created on Chartres Street. This is in fact the oldest preserved spiral staircase in the French Quarter.
