Charles Beau Hoffacker is an artist who lives and shows his art in New Orleans. During the day, he paints and reflects on his night job as a policeman. Try as he might to separate the two; they inevitably cross and influence one another. His work has been featured in Vice magazine, Ozy magazine, and several news publications and media. It is his goal to transfer his efforts full time into creating art. Society can be better served through ideas translated through paint.
Questions & Answers
Describe your art in three words.
Intriguing. Original. Articulate.
Describe yourself in one word.
Hopeful
What do you love the most about creating art in your community? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?
Creating art is the most amazing thing in the world. I imagine it is the closest thing to being God- the creator, there is. I think my day job influences my work. It seems like no matter what I want to paint, it is always influenced by an investigative lens.
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?
I always have an idea of what I want a piece to look like when it is finished. That RARELY ever happens. I find that as the work grows, so does the creative process subsequently changing the final product vastly from where it began. It always works out for the better. I am more happy with every piece than I would have been had I stuck to the plan.
Where do you draw inspiration?
Inspiration: I feel like the creative process creates more creative process. The more art I make, the more I want to make. Every free minute that I have is spent working towards my craft. Its almost like an addiction but one I don't want to rid myself of.
Who are your artistic influences or gurus?
Reederone (Michael Reeder). His work is graphic. His work replays the same images drawn from urban environments. I love his process. His work is much like my own in that it requires fabrication beyond simple painting.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art?
While not in the studio, I am at the job - NOPD. I am working toward phasing out the police thing and moving into full-time art. I am also a student working on my BA in painting at Arizona State University.
What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact.
I love to go sailing.
