I am a contemporary American Painter. A life force of energy in motion fill my paintings known by their bold originality, vibrancy and exquisite use of color. The inspiration of my abstract mark making is rooted in questions of existence, happiness, and human potential. Themes of love, healing, spirituality, and mortality are intertwined in the stroke work through a language of symbolism. My paintings challenge traditional ideas of truth, beauty and abstraction. 

I began painting as a therapeutic tool after enduring traumatic life experience in January 2020. Since then, I have painted over 2000 original works of art. I am published in Antenna Signals and Delgado Images magazine, interviewed by the Artifications podcast, and hosted as a guest lecturer in Art Entrepreneurship at Paier College and Fairfield University. I opened my first studio in January of 2022 in the French Quarter of New Orleans. 

In the Summer of 2022, I took sabbatical with a private residency in Loches, France and Sardinia, Italy developing a representational body of work for the first time. The latest focus of my art is combining realism with abstraction while expanding my collection of large scale paintings.

I am currently exhibited at the Sunday Shop in New Orleans featured as an artist in residence. In June 2022, I was commissioned for a multinational brand collaboration. I have sold over 200 works of art independently, now held in private collections internationally- 14 countries and 38 states.

What do you love the most about creating art in your community? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?

When I first moved to New Orleans ten years ago, a friend gave me a card that read "It's a come as you are, come as you really want to be kind of town." What I love most about painting in New Orleans is the people- the community of possibility created in a place where you can truly be and do whatever you want - and the people of this city accept and love you all the same. The freedom and passion in my work is influenced greatly by this nurturing environment. There is a unique creative energy here, an inherent beauty of the place. I paint inspired by the sounds of a stray trumpet down the block, the marching band passing by at sunset , the forever growing vegetation blooming on dilapidated houses, the colors of shotguns smiling on an evening stroll, the sticky summer heat embracing you like the cotton candy Louisiana sky, the eye of a hurricane on the television screen all along the ever flowing mighty Mississippi- New Orleans represents an idea that there is life here against all odds- and that is a life full of joie de vivre. . My art is rich in influence mirroring the unfathomable complex resilient beauty of this city.  

Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?

My painting is very intuitive, I believe in an inner rhythm that guides me. I listen to it, usually, I can't quite ignore it so I pick up a paint brush to express what is inside with paint on canvas bringing that emotion to the outside world. I may surround myself with books of inspiration,  beautiful objects, and music, I am always playing music when I paint abstractly. I also love to paint outside most- often leave my canvases in the sun for a few hours  before I begin, something about having them absorb the light is important to me. 

Where do you draw inspiration?

I draw inspiration from daily life, little sparks of beauty, acts of kindness, curious encounters, the natural world.  I believe everything I am surrounded by influences my work, colors, shapes, sounds, smells.  An artist must always keep their eyes open, observing the world with wide eyes, like you are always exploring- because you never know what you might see.

Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Jean Michelle Basquiat, Cecily Brown, Pierre Alenchinksy, Henri Mattisse, Raoul Duffy 

In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work?

People have referred to my work as Jazz on a canvas. 

Where can we find you when you are not creating art?

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?

I love dusk, watching the sun fade and paint a rainbow in the sky as I wait for the stars to come out and the moon rise.
