Inspired by Audrey Tautou as Amélie Poulain, this Joan of Arc is young, fiercely determined, and a bit mysterious. Joan of Arc is oft depicted as a womanly Aphrodite archetype with long flowing locks, when it was a 17 year old girl who set out to save France, with her hair cropped short in imitation of a men’s cut of the era. She dressed in her now-famous armor to cross dangerous territories and engage in military campaigns. The inspiration for this armor is the suit of Ferdinand I, with its breastplate etching of the Madonna and Child/Woman of the Apocalypse atop a crescent moon.

Follow this artistOriginally from the small town of Willits in Northern California, I moved to New Orleans from the Bay Area in 2013. I've always loved to draw and grew up taking art classes--everything from ceramics to modern dance--but it wasn't until my sophomore year in college that I took my first painting course. It was love at first sight and I've been fascinated with the medium ever since. New Orleans has given me the time, inspiration, and community support to paint and I couldn't be more grateful.
