Plants are silent witnesses to our lives. They exist seemingly without consciousness, as passive decor, adding beauty to the background of our daily dramas. Though this is how they may be initially perceived, we know that, biologically, our existence is completely intertwined with and dependent on theirs. We eat their nutrients, drink their nectar, take their medicine, breath their oxygen, as well as feel at peace in their presence. In times where nothing is certain, I look to New Orleans nature for solace. The land is fertile, the sun is ever-present, and verdant growth is inevitable. Nothing is known, but the land is a blessing.
