This brand new 24x30 landscape is part of my "In Between The Light & Me"series. This collection of works is dear to my heart and one that I have returned to time and time again throughout my career. In fact, I believe it will be my only life time series, the one that I will continue as along as I am and alive and painting. I typically create four to five of these a year balancing them with my other explorations in abstract painting. So why is this series so important to me? I feel it truly captures the essence of my soul, who I am and why I am here. I have always felt the most alive outdoors, in nature with my source. Growing up in Louisiana has been such a gift to me as I love water, all water, but especially the marsh landscapes and shores of our lakes .It is the intersection of land and water that intrigues me. I could spend my entire life taking in the division and shapes of the earth cutting into water , the skies, the reflections, the energy. Yet it is the simplification and translations of these happenings that inspire me in the studio. I truly believe it is important not tell my viewer EVERYTHING. I want their imaginations to have the opportunities to play also. So therefore, simplification is my goal in these soulscapes.
I have another landscape that is dear to my heart and that is the soft green foothills of the rocky mountains. These mountains stirred my soul and brought me so much peace for many years of my young life. Although my dear sweet Louisiana is my home of choice, the images of light from these hills will always be in the back of my subconscious mind. It is the soft green rolling ones just before the big dramatic blue, grey and purple cliffs that stir my heart the most. So are my landscapes Louisiana Marshes or Rocky Mountain foot hill lakes? I'd say mostly Louisiana but I see a foothill creeping in every now and then.I'll let you decide piece to piece. So have you ever squinted your eyes and starred at our dark green Louisiana tree lines around water and noticed how these resemble soft green flowing foothills?
Hope you enjoy the newest addition to the "In Between The Light & Me" series.
