Follow this artistI am an artist and educator with a background in design, based in New Orleans. I spend a fair amount of time along the Mississippi coast as well, where water significantly impacts surrounding natural elements. I’m fascinated by the visual impacts of tidal waters as they overtake other natural elements, and then retreat, leaving a completely different textural landscape. Through painting, I examine ways that physical forces like tidal waters, as well as chemical processes, mimic the power and influence people have on each other, both individually and collectively, and how this influence may oscillate over time, resulting in new entities. One element overtaking, another succumbing, others merging. One element changing the essence of another through layering. Consumption of one element into another.
I’ve come to understand my work as narrative and autobiographical, utilizing the fluid properties of diluted paint, intuitive and sensory memory, and abstraction to investigate and visualize the fluidity of power in relationships.
I have a Masters of Arts from NYU and have shown my work in New York, Washington, DC, Houston, and New Orleans. As an educator, I have taught Art in high need public high schools for 10 years. I am also a mother of two young children, a role and relationship that constantly informs my work.
