This is part of a current series were I explore the representation and abstraction through still-lifes of objects that are personally meaningful. First creating a still-life composition from observation with representational approach, then followed by an abstraction informed by the emotional content of the objects and the representational painting.

Follow this artistI am a contemporary painter who lives and works in New Orleans. A native New Orleanian, many of my colorful paintings represent our sometimes detached relationship with nature in an urban environment. Working in oils and mixed media, the emotional impact of color and color relationships is as important as the subject matter itself in my paintings. Recent work especially concerned with the balance between saturated and muted hues, depicted in my abstracted compositions.
I studied studio art at Newcomb College and the University of Texas at Austin where I earned a B.A. in Fine Art (Studio), a B.A. in Liberal Arts (French), and recently, a Certificate in Non-Profit Management. I also earned a Master’s of Liberal Arts at Tulane University.
After retiring from 30 years teaching K-12 visual arts, I am an instructor at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art, and at NOMA for the Art Thrives program. I served on the Executive Board of the Board of Directors for YAYA, Inc. and am also a guest artist and instructor at YAYA. I am the President of the Board of Directors of New Orleans Green Light, where I also create original artwork on barrels for GLNO’s rain barrel program.
In addition to pursuing my own art and exhibiting locally, and my many years as a visual arts educator, I have been involved with many community arts projects. I continue to volunteer time and talents to promoting the vibrant spirit and atmosphere of the arts especially with the youth of New Orleans. My work is included in the collections at Tulane University, A.B. Freeman School of Business; Jung Hotel New Orleans; Ochsner Elmwood Sports Medicine Center; Ochsner North Louisiana and Slidell; Provenance Hotels, Portland,OR; Global Business Center, New Orleans; and various local and national private collections.
