A portrait of Phyllis Taylor commissioned by Nola Media Group, producers of NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune as part of its tricentennial project, 300 for 300: People who make New Orleans, New Orleans. Technically, it is called the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation, but one of the driving forces behind it since its 1985 founding -- and particularly since Pat Taylor's death in 2004 -- has been Phyllis Taylor, an elegant and optimistic philanthropist with a demonstrated passion for public service. The foundation's most celebrated undertaking has been the creation of TOPS, the state's college scholarship program, but under Phyllis Taylor's guidance a long list of local organizations -- educational, religious, artistic, military and more -- have benefitted from the foundation's largesse, and from her dedication to carrying the Taylor Foundation torch. | Read full story |

Originally from the small town of Willits in Northern California, I moved to New Orleans from the Bay Area in 2013. I've always loved to draw and grew up taking art classes--everything from ceramics to modern dance--but it wasn't until my sophomore year in college that I took my first painting course. It was love at first sight and I've been fascinated with the medium ever since. New Orleans has given me the time, inspiration, and community support to paint and I couldn't be more grateful.
